Just when you thought you knew everything you could possibly want to about Hitler, along comes a video that questions conventional thinking regarding the Fuehrer's last days. Most people believe that when the bodies of Hitler and his new wife, Eva Braun, were found in a shallow grave outside the bunker where he supervised the final days of the Third Reich, the corpses were burned and their ashes scattered amidst those of their once beautiful city of Berlin. Adolf Hitler's Last Days challenges that belief, but first takes viewers through now-familiar scenes of Hitler's rise and fall. Although more than half of the film is comprised of images we have seen hundreds of times before, the last twenty minutes raises truly interesting questions. Were the bodies of Hitler and Braun removed by Russian troops under orders from Stalin, who had a strange fascination with Hitler? Were they buried in a nondescript suburb of East Germany and then dug up in 1970 to be finally destroyed? Public libraries will probably find this a popular item on their shelves, especially with conspiracy theorists who believe in Anastasia, Elvis, and JFK sightings. Recommended, especially for those without similar fare such as Hitler: The Final Chapter (VL-9/95). Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
