On August 6, 1945, the residents of Hiroshima became the first victims of the atomic age when an American bomber dropped the first atomic bomb over that city. In the days and months that followed, survivors struggled with fires, famine, pain and the public humiliation of disfigurement. This video movingly shows how survivors learned to cope, forgive, and begin to live again. Their paths to recovery were highly individual. As a child, one man endured the horror of seeing most of his family burned alive; later he turned his experience into an improbable but very popular series of graphic comic books. Another couple returned to the ravaged city and by mass-producing bread they helped feed a city while starting a highly profitable business that thrives to this day. A disfigured "Hiroshima maiden" describes a moving encounter she had with "Enola Gay" co-pilot Robert Lewis. The video includes rare and sometimes disturbing footage of Hiroshima victims, but this moving and informative documentary deserves to be seen. Highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (S. Rees)
