"When tillage begins, the arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of civilization," said Daniel Webster, and the Agricultural Hall of Fame is a memorial to the farmers who built this particular corner of civilization. Located near Kansas City, the museum features such unusual exhibits as barbed wire (circa 1873, it's some of the first barbed wire around), a 1781 Navajo Indian plow, a humongous salt and pepper shaker collection, and many other curios. In addition to the sights, the program profiles five of the 32 inductees (including Luther Burbank, George Washington Carver, and Squanto), and visits an 1854 train station, a furnished schoolhouse (circa 1917) and a 4th-generation Blacksmith Shop. An interesting tour. Recommended. (See DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER LIBRARY for availability.)
