Covering the stretch of Alaska from Seward to Fairbanks, this video presents a form of travel that just might appeal to tourists leery of attempting the journey by car. The Alaska Railroad is certainly a marvel of engineering, but its main appeal is the spectacular scenery seen along the trip, including, of course, majestic Mt. McKinley. There are frequent stops along the rail journey that permit riders to visit many small towns, and the program is unabashedly commercial in pointing out to viewers certain gift shops, B & B's, and other attractions found therein. Still, given the fact that many people will consider this picturesque rail trip for a future vacation, this short, comprehensive, and reasonably priced video should prove to be a popular item. Recommended, with reservations. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
