Great for armchair travelers, this comprehensive six-volume set highlights one of America's greatest treasures, our national parks. The first two volumes feature overviews of each of the 55 national parks, including a look at the geological events that shaped them, as well as a pair of extra shorts: “Our Fragile Heritage,” advising visitors on how they can contribute to the preservation of the parks, and “Symphony to America's National Parks,” a music video featuring photographic highlights of the parks accompanied by a collection of classical symphonic works. Unfortunately, the DVD menu only allows selection by region, rather than by individual parks. Volumes three through five offer much more detailed historical looks, as well as tours, of three of the most famous national parks: Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon. The final volume, the Reader's Digest Classic Collection "Nature's Symphony," is an extended music video presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound featuring photo montages of parks set to classical music. Another value-packed bargain set, this is recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (L. Stevens)
