Stephen Rea (The Crying Game) narrates this interesting, if occasionally visually lame overview (live action sequences depict angels as long-locked dudes wearing silver skirts and brandishing swords...please) of humanity's fascination with the heavenly messengers. Pointing out that all monotheistic religions require angels to bring tidings of joy or bad news (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), the program combines interviews with professors of comparative religion who trace the history of angels (interestingly, an angel was added to the Abraham/Isaac story), with artistic depictions of angels and the (aforementioned) ambience-aiding men in skirts. A still edge-of-the-millennium popular subject, this is recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
