The PBS-aired 12-video Battlefield: Vietnam (series price: $149.99) offers a comprehensive look at American involvement in Vietnam during the late 1960s and early 1970s, culminating in the preparation by the North for its eventual successful conquest of South Vietnam and the humiliating retreat of American forces. Using stock war footage shot in both b&w and color, the episode entitled Peace with Honor presents a straightforward, somewhat pedantic, history of the United States' doomed "Vietnamization" efforts to make South Vietnam assume more responsibility for its own defense while attempting to withdraw American troops. An objective appraisal, the video offers criticism of the U.S. strategy side-by-side with an analysis of North Vietnam's missed opportunities to hasten the end of the war. Given the popularity of the subject and the high profile public television airing, this is recommended, especially for libraries with larger holdings in Vietnam War and/or general military history materials. Other titles in the series include: The Undeclared War, Air War Vietnam, The Tet Offensive, Rolling Thunder and The Fall of Saigon. Aud: C, P. (J. Carlson)
