The fourth title in the Bicycling Through History series, Revolutionary Period: Delaware Valley-Philadelphia takes viewers on a bike trail tour of some key sites in early American history, starting in Washington D.C., and traveling to Philadelphia, the Delaware Valley, Massachusetts (Lexington and Concord), New Jersey (Morristown, once site of George Washington's headquarters), and Valley Forge. Along with the visits, viewers are treated to re-enactments and interviews with historical characters. Although the premise of the Bicycling Through History series is terrific, the execution is uneven--on the one hand, the host cyclist's delivery is incredibly wooden, and the camerawork is often too casual; on the other, the music is great, the scenery is gorgeous, the price is right, and it may inspire other bicycling enthusiasts to pedal in the same educational direction. Three other titles--Colonial Period: George Washington, Colonial Period: Coastal-Atlantic-South, and Colonial Period: Tidewater-Virginia-Westward--are also available at the same price, with several others currently in production. Recommended, overall. Aud: P. (L. Stevens)
