The opening volume of this projected 2-part series introduces viewers to an in-depth look at a handful of species out of the 85 that are nesting birds. Beginning with an overview of nesting birds and brief history of bird houses, the program presents profiles on chickadees, nuthatches, swallows, wrens, flycatchers and woodpeckers. For each species, the tape discusses the bird's distinguishing characteristics, the proper diameter hole for a nesting box, and shows the courtship, mating, nest building, hatching, feeding, and fledging cycles, in addition to offering a visual portrait of the bird throughout the seasons. Although there are some instructions given during the program, the primary focus of the tape is on understanding the lifestyles of nesting birds. Some of the material covered in this program is also included in Birds Eye View Productions' Common Birds of Your Backyard. Recommended. (Available from: Birds Eye View Productions, 3060 So.
