Here's real trainspotting action. Railfans will be delighted with the many, many views of locomotives (carefully identified as to number and manufacturer) included here: historic steam engines, modern intercity turbo trains, and even a cliffside incline "lift" rail car. Featuring several architectural, industrial, and cultural sites along the rail route which are not on the typical tourist itineraries, the journey also includes postcard pretty towns of half-timbered buildings, old brick, and golden Cotswold stone, along with lesser-known (and equally important) sites relating to the region's history as cradle to the Industrial Revolution. And with place names like Kidderminster, Bewdley, Honeybourne, Toddington and Didcot, no Anglophile can resist this--despite the loving detail expended on the trains. Recommended. Other titles in the series include: The North East, South Wales and the Borders and South West Scotland. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
