According to Native North American myth, the world was a sad, black-and-white place when created, until Elder Brother made butterflies for the children, filling the Earth with color. In fact, butterflies are so beautiful that most people don't think of them as insects--which partially accounts for their popularity. In this video, viewers see butterfly aviaries (a popular attraction at many zoos and nature parks), butterfly farms, and the Insectarium of Montreal, which houses the collection of Georges Brossard, assembled on expeditions in Mexico and Asia. In addition, the tape points out the differences between butterflies and moths, and details their life cycles, while also looking at the commercial value of the moth species Bombyx mori (the silkworm) and the importance of butterflies as pollinators. Featuring wonderful time-lapse and close-up photography, this very enjoyable and, yes, colorful video, is sure to please a wide audience. Highly recommended. Aud: I, J, H, P. (R. Reagan)
