Peppy host and webzine journalist Sandy Fortier takes viewers on a trip to the Canadian metropolis of Québec in this program that looks at the celebrated winter fair known as the Carnaval de Québec. Focusing on the mostly outdoor events, activities featured here range from the expected (snow and ice sculptures) to the wacky (snow bathers clad only in swimsuits!), as Fortier interviews people along the way, including the director of the Carnaval, a guide at the famous Hôtel de Glace, and even the fair's giant snowman mascot, Bonhomme. Without the accompanying curriculum (which is heavy on vocabulary and includes the script and activity worksheets), Carnaval de Québec would be just an average fluffy travel program, but this educational production is actually designed to supplement French-language studies (the soundtrack options include both English and French with subtitles), which it does nicely. Recommended. [Note: also newly available are: Montreal: The Adventure with Sandy Fortier and New Orleans and Mardi Gras: The Experience.] Aud: I, J, H, P. (E. Gieschen)
