Viewers will feel the earth move under their feet while jammin' to this hits-laden retrospective from the woman who put female sensitivity on the pop map with her landmark 1971 album Tapestry. While not the most dynamic of performers, nor the most siren-voiced of chanteuses, King can lay claim to being one of the great songwriters of the latter 20th century, from her 1961 co-writer credit on the single "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" (made famous by The Shirelles) to 1974's peppy "Jazzman" and beyond. Captured live on her 1993 Colour of Your Dreams tour, King serves up nearly 90 minutes of hits, including "Smackwater Jack," "Up on the Roof," "Natural Woman," "So Far Away," "It's Too Late," and an audience-backed, moving rendition of "You've Got a Friend." And from the Weird Onstage Moments Bin: the sight of the somewhat physically rhythmically-challenged King pogo-ing around semi-oblivious guest guitarist Slash (!) from Guns N' Roses on "Hold Out for Love" is a bit bizarre. Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, this generous helping of hits from a legend's four-decade spanning career is highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
