Civil War Minutes

While many of the Civil War titles on the market look at contributing factors or offer a chronology of events or focus on specific battles or key military figures, Civil War Minutes, written and hosted by Civil War historian Michael Kraus, provides a glimpse into the day to day life of the common soldier. Each five-to-eight minute episode compiled on four videocassettes or two DVDs looks at various topics: from uniforms, weaponry, and battle flags, to stories behind photographs, letters, and other memorabilia. In addition, viewers will hear excerpts from The Camp Kettle (the regimental newspaper of the 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry) and popular tunes of the day performed live by folk singers David Kincaid and Greg Singer. Geared more toward the hobbyist than the historian, this series focuses on the human element of war, reminding us that the men involved had names and families, and that their loss was felt by others.
