Aimed at high school students, Constructive Communications offers an introductory course in giving speeches that follows a four-step program called EASY: Effect, Audience, Subject, and Yourself. Students are told to determine the desired effect of their communication (persuade, inform, etc.); know the prospective audience (young, old, rich, poor, etc.); know their subject and use concrete examples; and know themselves (their body language, dress, eye contact, etc.). While the information is fairly run-of-the mill, two aspects of this program make it less than an optimum purchase: 1) there is a long opening skit sequence to show students that trial lawyers, teachers, politicians, salespeople, and a host of other people in other occupations need to have good communication skills the section is too long and too obvious; and 2) over the course of the video, several question and answer sections advise viewers to "put the tape on pause" while writing down extensive answers-this is an excellent way to burn out the motor in a VCR. Not recommended. (Available from: Cambridge Career Products, P.O. Box 2153, Charleston, WV 25328-2153;1-800-468-4227.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
