This gritty, true-life news format docudrama follows the sad story of three young girls who were shot in the head on the streets of Miami, where gun violence is epidemic. Two miraculously survived, but face a lifetime of rehabilitation and slim hope of ever enjoying a normal life. Actor Richard Belzer, who played Detective John Munch on Homicide, hosts this inside look at the human and economic costs of America's failure to enact strict gun laws. Including interviews with victims' parents, doctors, and a wealth of grim statistics (firearms outnumber children in America three to one; every two hours a child dies of a gunshot wound; treating a gunshot head wound can cost upwards of $300,000), this compelling program reminds us that, in the words of one parent, "guns are killing our children, our families, and our dreams." Whether viewers are for, against, or have never thought about gun control, this program paints a depressing portrait of a critical contemporary social ill. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (J. McDaniel)
