American audiences were first exposed to Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson on The Drew Carey Show, where he played Drew's snarky English boss, Nigel Wick, and in recent years he's enjoyed tremendous success as a late-night talk-show host. As viewers familiar with his monologues already know, Ferguson is a gifted standup comic, which others will discover from watching this one-man show—shot live at Boston's Wilbur Theatre—that serves up a smart, brash, no-holds-barred laugh riot. A recovering substance abuser who's been remarkably candid about his addictions, Ferguson pokes fun at himself with scabrously funny observations about rehab and the people who wind up there, deploys his fabulous Sean Connery impersonation in service of a hilarious routine about James Bond, and weighs in (as a newly minted American citizen) on his adopted country—lampooning many of our sacred cows. Ferguson is gifted enough that the sheer force of his personality and mastery of his craft carry him through the gags that fall flat (and there are some). But by and large, A Wee Bit o' Revolution will provide more than a wee bit o' entertainment for fans and newcomers alike. DVD extras include an interview with Ferguson, plus a speech he delivered at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall. Recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
