Crossing Rome

Taking viewers on a spiritual, historical, and geographical journey back to the Rome inhabited by the early Christians, this engaging program, hosted by journalist Paul Heiney, chronicles the evolution of the Christian cross from a symbol of shame to one of hope. Examining the persecution of Christ's followers under Nero (and others) during Christianity's darkest early days, as well as the transformation in people's perception of the cross in the wake of Constantine's conversion, Crossing Rome also reviews the recent events leading up to the rediscovery in Jerusalem of what many believe is the actual cross upon which Jesus was crucified. Outdoor footage of Roman ruins and the indoor scenes of ancient crosses, sacred artifacts and mosaics, as well as a tour of underground tombs, enliven the interesting insights into the faith of the early Christians. The program also includes simple yet profound commentary about how contemporary Christians might view the various crosses or burdens in their own lives in light of Christ's sufferings. Recommended.
