This DVD looks at several lovely but relatively less-traveled cities: Bergen (Norway), Copenhagen (Denmark), Gdansk (Poland), Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway again), Reykjavik (Iceland), Rostock (Germany), St. Petersburg (Russia), Stavanger (Norway, yet again), Stockholm (Sweden), Tallinn (Estonia), and Trondheim (Norway, for the fourth time). Oddly, the DVD is organized in the above alphabetical order, not by a tour route--in other words, more like encyclopedia chapters than a travelogue. So it's a little annoying to be bounced from country to country, rather than making a circuit of the chosen North and Baltic Sea ports (and maps are not shown onscreen, which could lead to more viewer confusion). But the content is excellent, featuring beautiful footage of quaint old buildings, cool modern places, impressive cathedrals, fun museums, parks, and markets. Plus, the price is great (and the DVD includes a bonus “Top 10 Attractions” segment). Still, the Hanseatic League wouldn't have been defined over and over again if this had been a traditional sequential travelogue. Given the huge demand for travel videos and DVDs, this is recommended, overall. [Note: also available at the same price on DVD: Cruise Alaska, Cruise Hawaii & Tahiti, Cruise Coastal Mexico, Cruise Caribbean East and Cruise Caribbean West.] Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
