This French production adds nothing new to an already burgeoning selection of videos about D-Day, especially since the recent 50th anniversary of the landing. The overuse of stock footage of the war is particularly irritating; we've all seen the same pictures of a ranting Hitler and his goose-stepping army, the London citizens scurrying into bomb shelters during the Blitz, the German soldiers pacing the beaches of Normandy under the shadows of their mighty artillery. D-Day does look at the events that led up to the invasion and the actual landing is adequately presented, but this is not an essential purchase except for those libraries needing comprehensive military collections.
