Sure to appeal to fans of Dan Brown's bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code, Richard Metzger's documentary The Da Vinci Code Decoded features, in addition to the author, several of the researchers whose work formed the basis for Brown's story about a modern quest for the Holy Grail. Henry Lincoln (Holy Blood, Holy Grail), Dan Burstein (Secrets of the Code), and Martin Lunn (Da Vinci Code Decoded) are among the historians on this DVD who take viewers on a guided tour of the heretical subtext of Leonardo's few paintings. It's one thing to read descriptions about coded images in Da Vinci's art, but quite another to actually see that disembodied, knife-wielding hand in the artist's "The Last Supper," or the very strong suggestion (in the same painting) that Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene were husband and wife. Offering persuasive, compelling evidence here--much of it admittedly shrouded in mystery and conspiracy theories--to back the essence of Brown's book, the DVD also includes an hour-plus of bonus footage featuring additional interviews and on-location scenes from the Louvre, Westminster Abbey, and Rosslyn Chapel. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: C, P. (T. Keogh)
