Folk Dance Videos International (disc by Multi-Video, Inc.). Public performance rights included. Substandard production values mar this otherwise lively tribute to the native dances of Puerto Rico. Shot live at the North Carolina International Folk Festival, the program features a wide variety of dances from two prominent Puerto Rican folk dance groups: Folkloric Guateque Ballet and Compania Follorica Las Muesas de Cayey. Overlaid narration informs viewers on the history of the folk dances in Puerto Rico, while the dancers perform the bombas, sais, polkas, and mazurkas. Unfortunately, the filmmakers are clearly not using professional camcorders, and several of the shots from one of the camera angles carry a noticeable tear at the top of the video image. The dancing is wonderful, as are the colorful costumes; and the music, played on traditional instruments, is a joy to listen to. But, because of the poor production aspects, we cannot recommend this program. Other volumes in the Dances of the World series, not seen, include: Korea, Poland, England, Russia, and The Southern Appalachians. (Available from: Multi-Video, Inc., P.O.
