Fans of Stephen Wright and the late Mitch Hedberg will find Demetri Martin—a budding master of the absurd observation—to be a kindred misfit spirit. “The best time to add insult to injury,” he offers in this Comedy Central standup special, "is when you're signing somebody's cast.” Confronted with a door marked “Exit Only,” he notes, “You have severely underestimated this door.” Rather than “fishing,” he suggests we call the pastime “tricking and killing.” A centerpiece of his act is his “findings”: graphs and flow charts on such subjects as “How funny I find farts by location” and pillow fights (girl vs. girl = awesome, while pillow vs. pillow = crazy awesome). Whimsical musical interludes and animated segments incorporate further musings, such as “I saw a transvestite wearing a shirt that said ‘Guess.'” This disc also contains a bonus Comedy Central special (which includes the brilliant observation that drunk backseat drivers can be just as dangerous as drunk drivers if they are persuasive), as well as audio commentary with family members, and deleted scenes. Profanity, unbleeped on this DVD, is used sparingly. A fine outing from a very likeable performer, this is recommended. Aud: P. (D. Liebenson)
