While the line between "exploitation" and "tribute" seems ever more blurred with the growing amount of Di-product hitting the market, the distinction has become, sadly, beside the point as a grieving public's insatiable need for more continues to encourage supply and demand. Two new documentaries--both titled Diana--offer a chronicle of the late Princess of Wales, both with older (much of it identical) stock footage and newer film of the crash and funeral. While the pair are so similar it seems almost a moot point to review which title is superior, People's Princess is the lesser video, with cut-off sentences, abrupt scene changes and more of the obnoxiously sensational adjectives describing the Princess, the Royal Family, the crash, and the funeral. The world was stunned and shocked by the tragic death of Princess Diana, the loss was heartfelt and we shall remember her with or without these video portraits. Diana: Legacy of a Princess is an optional purchase, while Diana: The People's Princess is not recommended. Consider to meet demand, but let's hope that, in time, a less rushed and more insightful portrait of the late Princess will appear. Aud: P (N. Plympton)
