This 2005 concert filmed before an appreciative British audience features five-time Grammy award-winning chanteuse Dionne Warwick, whose collaboration during the 1960s with composers Burt Bacharach and Hal David resulted in a string of memorable hits that included "Don't Make Me Over," "Message to Michael," "Walk On By," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," and—of course—"Do You Know the Way to San Jose” (all performed here). In addition to her pop soul hits, Warwick serves up some movie classics—her own hit theme from Valley of the Dolls, the theme from Arthur, and “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”—rounding out the generous 24-song set with a few gospel numbers, including Kirk Franklin's “Why We Sing.” Warwick is also joined by her son David Elliott on duets for "I Say a Little Prayer" and “That's What Friends Are For.” Backed by a small but solid jazz ensemble, Warwick is obviously not as vocally strong here as in her heyday (she wisely avoids the upper registers), but for a woman who has been in the music business for nearly 50 years, she sounds mighty, mighty fine. Presented in DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo, this is recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
