"Come visit your money" could be the motto of the Cayman Islands, that haven of offshore trust funds, multi-national bank accounts and tax free corporate registries that has been an investor's paradise ever since the local natives salvaged an English shipwreck off its shores and King George declared it a tax free zone "for eternity." This soulless, upbeat, Chamber of Commerce style presentation does its best to convince us that there is more here than 570 banks; 11,765 bankers; 30,000 companies; 200,000 fax machines and 1.3 trillion guys in business suits. And frankly, the possibilities look fairly un-corporate, especially the shipwreck diving and the sting ray lagoon, where one can feed the giant tame rays and pet moray eels. Even so, this is the kind of travel tape in which relentless cheerful music is played over montages of happy couples strolling the sands and eating at salad bars...and the assumption is that the viewer is just a hedonistic dolt with an attention span about as long and broad as a periwinkle. Oddly, a second program, mostly un-narrated is attached at the end of the video. It's called "Diving Grand Cayman" and is far superior, featuring lengthy and beautiful underwater footage set to diverting music. Collections with nothing on the Cayman Islands might want to consider this, but if you're looking for a place to invest your millions, I know a travel filmmaker who would gladly shoot a superior documentary on the subject for a fraction of the cost. Not a necessary purchase. A companion video, Diving Cayman (which was originally reviewed on Video Librarian Online under the title Cayman Diving Memories) is also available at the same price.
