A well-meaning, but unfocused video about Mark Hamilton's re-tracing of Lewis & Clark's famed expedition, Discovering Home chronicles Mr. Hamilton's 1998-2000 journey, undertaken to honor Native Americans and the trailblazing explorers commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson to explore western America during the early 1800s. Traveling nearly 6,800 miles by kayak and on foot with a mule named Joe, Hamilton videotaped the scenic environment, wildlife, and inevitable pollution created by humankind and its cities along the way. Unfortunately, the editing of the images and voice-over commentary don't always add up to a coherent message in what is essentially a home video with aspirations well beyond its grasp. Not recommended. For those truly interested in Lewis and Clark's journey, Ken Burns' Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery (VL-1/98) is the definitive video to date. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Fisher)
