While the second hour of this 2-hour plus retrospective doesn't measure up to the first, Doo Wop 50 offers a pleasantly nostalgic trip down back-seat-of-the-Chevy memory lane, boasting some 38 tunes, including: "Only You" and "The Great Pretender" by the Platters, "Heart and Soul" by the Cleftones, "Maybe" by the Chantels, and "Blue Moon" by the original members of the Marcels. Hosted by Jerry Butler, this PBS-aired 1999 concert features sharp Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, a handful of interviews with doo wop legends such as Gene Chandler and Johnny Maestro, and some of the best '50s and '60s crooning you're liable to hear. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
