Both of these remarkable productions take advantage of the superior qualities of Hi-Fi sound to deliver a lifelike natural experience right in viewers' living rooms. Photographed by renowned photographer Peter Roberts, both productions are non-narrative looks at their respective subjects. In Eagles, the musical soundtrack by new age artist Claude Autry perfectly complements the video story of one family of bald eagles. We see the courting ritual (a stunning aerial ballet), hatching and feeding of the young, and the maiden attempts at flight of the fledgling eagle. In the beautiful finale, viewers witness these magnificent birds struggling to hang on during the harsh conditions of winter. In Loons, the story follows the nesting and chick raising of one family of loons. The eerie call of the loon overlays the striking series of natural behaviors captured on film, including: a territorial fight between loon and beaver, the response of nesting loons to a threatening thunderstorm, and the vicious battle between chicks for dominance. Both titles have small booklets built into the video box which offer time-coded annotations to the behaviors shown on film, as well as a variety of interesting facts. Both titles are highly recommended. (Available from: Aylmer Press, P.O. Box 2735, Madison, WI 53701.)
