The last thing I want to do is get the Albino-Falsetto-Purple-Sheer-Shirt-Wearing-Rock-Singers Association riled up, but Edgar Winter does look a tad weird in this intimate 1990 concert recorded with all-American (aging) boy Rick Derringer for German TV's Ohne Filter series. Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM stereo, the lads play a total of eight Winter and Derringer tunes in this hour-shy program, including "Keep Playing That Rock 'n Roll," "Free Ride," "I Play Guitar," "Tobacco Road," "Rock 'n Roll Hoochie Koo," and the one song that every hot-blooded teen male in 1973 wanted pouring out of his 8-track as he tooled down the local strip in his juiced-up VW bug: "Frankenstein." Derringer still has good guitar chops, and Winters is surprisingly versatile (here he plays keyboard, harmonica, drums, and some impressive sax on "Tobacco Road"), but both of these guys look like they're cooking on another planet (Derringer looks spaced, while Winter keeps performing these awkward Carl Douglas kung-fu fighting moves), and the fact is that the demand for this title will most likely be light (although, hey, I would have checked it out).
