British singer Engelbert Humperdinck (real name: Arnold Dorsey) was a ‘60s sensation who frequently appeared on American TV shows and even had his own short-lived variety series. To many, he's little more than a trivia question, but this talented performer and incomparable showman has enjoyed a long and prosperous career. Recorded at the Birmingham Hippodrome, this 1990 concert shows the erstwhile Mr. Dorsey in peak form, performing a selection of hit tunes—both his own, and covers—that include “I Get Lonely,” “I Can't Help Myself,” “Wild Thing,” “What Am I Going to Do Without You?”, “After the Lovin',” “Release Me,” “If You Love Me,” and “Quando, Quando, Quando,” among others. Humperdinck isn't for everyone (after all, the guy is considered a camp icon in some circles), but those who like the man and his music will be more than pleased with this 19-song set presented in Dolby Digital stereo. Recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
