A well-photographed, nicely-edited travelogue, Exploring Bali and Komodo begins amiably enough with a smattering of history, religion, and culture, as we see and hear about Hindu temples and dances; however, after roughly 10 minutes, the program devolves into a sort of brag reel of the filmmakers' dive safari. Viewers simply interested in a superb image collection of tropical marine life will find that this fits the bill (at a very affordable price): from pregnant seahorses and ravenous anemones to outrageously camouflaged fish and other odd sea creatures, the underwater life captured here is truly spectacular. But those looking for a more informative cultural overview may want to consider other titles, such as Bali: Life in the Balance (VL-11/92). Optional. Aud: P. (E. Gieschen)
