According to this excellent documentary, which originally aired on PBS stations, many African Americans fail to seek professional help early in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, due to a strong cultural sense of families handling their own problems. Succinctly and effectively offering advice and insights, the many experts interviewed in Facing Alzheimer's--physicians, program directors, caregivers--discuss home-based care, recognizing the need for institutional help, spiritual concerns, and family caregiver support. Geared specifically towards an African-American audience, the issues and feelings raised here would nevertheless resonate with most viewers, regardless of ethnicity. Highly recommended.
