Shot over an entire growing season, the six videos in the Farmer to Farmer series, produced in association with the Rodale Institute, was filmed in twelve states and incorporates interviews with many farmers and educators. We looked at Rotational Grazing and Vegetables. Rotational Grazing, long fallen out of disfavor due to the emphasis on "maximum" output from one's animals (particularly milking cows), is enjoying a resurgence today. Citing the costs of high-protein grain, the farmers interviewed in the tape share their methods for using rotational grazing either alone or as a supplement to their existing feed system. Vegetables concentrates on environmentally healthy alternatives to the massive spraying of insecticides and other growth-enhancement chemicals on crops. Options profiled include the use of manure/compost natural fertilizer mixes, cover crops, crop rotation, and green manures. The program also offers suggestions for weed and insect control that don't involve the use of chemicals. The four other tapes in the series are: Field Crops, I.P.M. For Vegetables and Small Fruits, I.P.M. For Apples, and High-Value Marketing. An excellent series. Highly recommended for libraries servicing agricultural communities.
