Few military ceremonies stir as much patriotic pride in civilian observers as do silent drill teams organized by the various branches of the armed services. These intricate movements of men and weapon are impressive, historic, and highly symbolic of a past age when battles were directed with the flick of a hand and the pointing of a rifle. In this fine documentary, viewers follow the United States Marine Corps silent drill team from the selection of members through the intensive training and, finally, to the presentation of two major programs: "The Sunset Parade" and "The Evening Parade." The men assigned to the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C. (known as the "8th and I" unit because of their location) offer their personal comments on why they chose to join the team, and instructors take viewers behind the scenes, explaining much of the symbolism behind the movements. A colorful, exciting, and patriotic video, this is strongly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
