Although it's credited as being Volume II of the "West To Santa Fe" series (Vol. 1--West To Santa Fe: Overview was reviewed in the July-August, 1991 issue), Forts of the Santa Fe Trail stands alone and is actually better than the previous program. While the format is fairly simple--the program moves from fort to fort along the trail--the stories behind each of the forts are interesting and the combination of historical pictures and contemporary film footage offers viewers a good look at how the forts appeared yesterday and today. Profiled forts include: Fort Osage, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Riley, Fort Nichols, Fort Dodge, Fort Scott, Fort Harker, and Fort Aubrey. Recommended. (Available from: The Old Army Press. P.O. Box 2243, Fort Collins, CO 80522; (800) 627-0079.)
