According to the video jacket, Fragile X Syndrome is an inheritable sex-linked chromosomal disorder, and the second most common cause of mental retardation. But after watching this 11-minute production, that's about all I know. Instead of presenting actual details about this syndrome, Fragile X Family eavesdrops on a typical but somewhat disjointed day in the life of a developmentally disabled but independent woman and her four kids--three of whom are also affected by the condition--observing as they prepare for school, fight among themselves, receive parental guidance from the mother, etc. In other words, the stuff that happens in all families. The cover copy claims that this video "will help healthcare and social service professionals and students understand the challenges and strengths of such families, and to think about the kinds of supports which may be helpful to them." But given the dearth of solid information here, I rather doubt it. Not recommended. Aud: C, P. (K. Glaser)
