Peter Morgan's play about the 1977 television duel between disgraced former president Richard Nixon and ambitious British TV interviewer David Frost, coupled with Ron Howard's Oscar-nominated film based on the stage production, have brought about renewed interest in the original broadcast interviews. Frost/Nixon: The Original Watergate Interviews features the third, and most famous, of the four 90-minute programs aired, covering the Watergate scandal, with Nixon coming as close as he ever did to apologizing. A fascinating document of substantial historical importance that offers insights into Nixon's psychological makeup and the tragedy of his presidency, the interview also demonstrates Frost's preparation and skill as an interviewer. The DVD features two useful addenda: a brief introduction by Frost, and a series of reminiscences in which Frost details the negotiations that preceded taping, offers anecdotes about the actual interview process, and talks about Nixon's reaction to their work together. Highly recommended. [Note: Frost/Nixon: The Complete Interviews will be available on Apr. 28, priced at $39.95.] Aud: H, C, P. (F. Swietek)
