In this homage to political protestation and ecofeminism, a group of mainly women activists suspend themselves from trees, get arrested and serve jail sentences, debate law enforcement and political personnel, and organize a peace camp, all in hopes of stopping the rainforest clearcutting at Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island. While decently produced and filmed, and beautifully illustrating the timelines of the grassroots social actions that came before it (civil rights, women's rights, etc.), this emotional program is mainly carried by the vexation of the movement's protesters and organizers, with little in the way of perspective or background on the clearcutting issue itself. Desperately needed here is a narrator to provide the answers to questions such as how long has Clayoquot been clearcut, what has the effect been, and what--if any--were the results of the 1993 protests? As an inspiring model of political protest, this tape is fine, but its failure to provide solid on-screen information on the Clayoquot issue is disappointing, especially given its steep price.
