Galleon Hunter profiles the adventures of diver and filmmaker Don Ferguson as he sets out to methodically locate, visit and dive the wreckage of 19 ships from the Spanish Armada which sunk in a huge storm off the Florida Keys in 1733. The ships carried all sorts of treasures, declared and undeclared, and the promise of finding them drives the story as Don heads out on day trips in his boat. It is a bit of a letdown to discover that virtually all of the dive sites are identical looking underwater piles of ballast peppered with a few rotting boards, and all the treasures have been relocated to various museums. However, the unspectacular appearance of most of the dive sites is made up for by excellent illustrations, interesting background stories about the ships and cargos, visits to museums and profiles of pioneer divers. In addition, exact GPS co-ordinates are given for the sites to help others find them and the maps and graphics are outstanding. This is a well produced tape for collections with a specific interest in these dive sites off the Florida Keys. Aud: P. (R. Ray)
