At first blush, you might think this is a regional interest title. Not so. And it is not exactly for tourists, since many of the gardens shown here are not open to the public or are open only by appointment. Despite the specialized title, it is the word "gardens" which makes the tape relevant to a wide audience. It's simply a visual treat. The Mediterranean-type climate of California's wine-growing region sustains a wide variety of plants which thrive in various combinations across the rest of North America. Consequently, we see billowing fields of daffodils and iris, colonnades of olive trees, and glorious acres of roses. The tape features horticulturists from various gardens discussing the philosophy of creating the growing space, offering plenty of inspiration for a variety of home gardeners: people who raise organic vegetables, people interested in waterscaping, and rosarians. Public librarians will find a ready audience for this tape, as would hospitals and nursing homes, whose "captive" audiences would be soothed by such lovely distraction. Highly recommended. Aud: P.
