Garth Brooks: His Life From Tulsa to the Top

This competent video retelling of the middle-of-the-road country music star's life covers all the bases in a supportive, non-critical manner that his fans will love. Those on the fence about Brooks or country music in general aren't likely to find much new in a biographical feature in which the subject is almost always referred to (warmly) by his first name. An intimate, almost homemade quality infuses the oddly matched visuals and soundtrack clips, and the sound of the wind in the outdoor interview bits either adds verisimilitude or sounds amateurish depending on one's point of view. Viewers will learn that Brooks took Home Economics in high school, was influenced by George Strait and married his longtime sweetheart. Oddly, for a longtime sweetheart, Mrs. Brooks doesn't crop up until about half-way through the video. An optional purchase for general country or pop music collections.
