Gay, Straight & Accepted

Part of the Guidance Systems series, this program geared towards grades 9-12 combines vocabulary with vignettes to explore the subject of tolerance in regards to sexual orientation. Noting that while sexual feelings and attractions are completely normal and natural, they can also sometimes be confusing for young people, Gay, Straight & Accepted (the onscreen title is Gay and Accepted) defines terms such as “heterosexual,” “homosexual,” “gay,” and “bi,” while also looking at the disadvantages of pretending in order to fit in (which can lead to depression). Also covering coming out to friends and family, ways to build a support team, and gaining straight allies who won't succumb to pressure, this program is sure to spark classroom discussion.
