This travelogue on speed buzzes through the New England states with lightning ferocity, covering everything from tourist attractions to geographical and historical features in breathless style. Nevertheless, it manages to cram in some nice trivia about New England. Did you know that Connecticut is called the Nutmeg State or that New Hampshire has "the straightest trees" (which is why it was often called "the ship mast state")? Viewers will learn that Vermont is the only New England state not part of the original 13 colonies, and that Pilgrims were originally looking for Virginia and were blown off course, landing on Plymouth Rock by accident (apparently just moments before the Kennedys arrived). The information in this tape is drier than a New England tobacco barn, but still it is presented in an upbeat condensed style that may be of interest to students and effective in classroom instruction. Recommended, with reservations. Other titles in the 12-video GeoQuest series include: The Mid-Atlantic States, The Great Lakes States, The Pacific States and Mexico. Aud: I, J, P. (R. Ray)
