Narrated by Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Going Green follows a small group of middle school students on a field trip to Los Angeles' “Eco-Home,” a vintage house and garden converted into an environmentally-friendly habitat through the use of solar collectors, graywater recycling, and cultivation of native plants. Julia Russell, founder of the Eco-Home Network, shows students how photovoltaic cells produce more than enough electricity for the house (and several others in the neighborhood besides), discusses recycling and composting, and gives the kids homemade garden-fresh organic produce. Interspersed throughout are “man on the street” interviews about “green” vocabulary, as well as comments from the children about conservation. Delivering the message that “a lifestyle designed to protect and maintain the health and well-being of Earth's life support systems is equally beneficial to our personal health and well-being—and that it is doable, fun and creative,” Going Green is recommended.
