Did you know that the Golden Gate Bridge has over 900 employees? I sure didn't. Constructed between 1933-1937, the Golden Gate Bridge is a world renowned structure designed by visionary engineer Joseph Strauss. At 4,200 ft., it is the third longest suspension bridge in the world (second largest in America, though nobody really talks about the Verrazano-Narrows bridge in New York in the same reverential terms as the Golden Gate Bridge.) Viewers get a close-up view of the bridge through interviews with the General Manager, the District Engineer, and the Superintendents of maintenance, ironworkers, and painters. 100,000 cars drive across the bridge each day, and the 50th anniversary (with footage included on this video) celebrated in 1987 saw some 600,000-700,000 people turn out to pay tribute to the structure. A good program that goes beyond the simple historical overview with pictures to really give viewers an idea of what a huge operation the Golden Gate Bridge really represents. Recommended.
