Good Conversation! A Talk with Clare Vanderpool

In this short documentary from the long-running Good Conversation series, friendly host Tim Podell tours Wichita, KS, while visiting with Newbery Medal award-winning author Clare Vanderpool. Featuring location footage of spots including College Hill Park, the Arkansas Riverwalk, and the Eighth Day Books store, along with the author's home office, this edition sheds light on Vanderpool's honored 2011 children's book Moon Over Manifest (16 years in the making, according to Vanderpool's recollections of rejection letters and revisions). In addition to reading from the book and discussing the characters, the down-to-earth Vanderpool also talks about her love of the city (“the center of my universe”), life as a mother of four, and literary influences, who include Newbery winners Madeleine L'Engle and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
