Established in 1929, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, sister to its more famous neighbor Yellowstone, is characterized by sweeping mountains, luscious plains, and abundant wildlife. Cinematographer Norman Bosworth and naturalist writer Rick Reese have put together a visually exciting, if occasionally overwritten, portrait of the history and current ecology of Grand Teton. While the story of how glacier movement affected the shape of the area is interesting, Reese's exploration of the 12 "biotic communities" goes a little beyond general interest (yet isn't detailed enough to satisfy scientific curiosity). For the most part, however, the program is easy to follow. A plus is an interview with Mardy Murie, termed the "godmother of American conservation" who talks about her arrival to the area in 1927 and what, over the ensuing half-century, Grand Teton has meant to her. Recommended. (Available from: Aylmer Press, P.O. Box 2735, Madison, WI 53701.)
