Every year, it is estimated that one million American teenagers become pregnant. A number of factors have been cited as contributing to the rise in unplanned pregnancies, and several are mentioned in this program: the proliferation of alcohol and drugs at parties, peer pressure, the deterioration of the nuclear family, etc. Regardless of the reasons, the focus of this eye-opening program is to show the realities. Interviews with several teenage mothers illustrate the radical changes in lifestyle that accompany the birth of a child. Many teenage pregnancies do not result in marriage, and the new mother is forced to not only stay at home with the child, but also rely on the help of social agencies to support her until the child can be cared for by others and she can enter the work force. While these mothers unquestionably love their children, and have taken the responsibility of providing for them, their stories-indeed, their voices-also reveal the frustrations, sacrifices, and sense of resentment, that comes with becoming an adult before one is emotionally ready. The program concludes with some practical advice detailing how and where young people can get the information they need, before it's too late. A sobering look at a growing problem, this program is highly recommended. (Available from: Cambridge Video, One Players Club Drive, Dept. CV3, Charleston, WV 25311; 1-800-4684227.)
