The idea of using art as a channel for helping to answer questions such as “What is beauty?” “What is faith?” and “What makes us truly human?” lies at the core of this thought-provoking program from director Steven Holloway. Powerful imagery is combined with quotes and interviews from contemporary artists whose Christian beliefs serve as the well from which they draw inspiration for exploring the human experience. Featured artists here—actors, filmmakers, musicians, writers, painters, and others—embrace art as a key to unlocking life's great mysteries, as well as the challenges of our age. Filmmaker Gordon Pennington wonders whether people have lost their curiosity and will to discover, and if they simply want to be distracted and dictated to rather than engage in debate. Visual artist Chris Anderson puts the trappings of success into perspective by saying that while placement in a famous gallery or selling a work for big bucks is a prize, success for her is being faithful to what God has called her to do—or, as she says, “doing what you know your molecules have been aligned to do.” As for the answer to—quoting Douglas Adams—life, the universe, and everything? Actor Nigel Goodwin says it's not about the answer, but rather about asking the next question. Whether one believes in a higher power or not, artists and art appreciators are likely to find this inspiring. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)
